Serving Size: 1 Capsule

Ingredient: Magnesium (as Magnesium Citrate) - 170 mg

Other ingredients: Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide.

Keep in a cool, dry place, tightly capped.

Suggested use: As a dietary supplement, 1 capsule one to three times daily between meals, or as directed by a healthcare practitioner. High doses of magnesium may have a laxative effect. 

Contraindicated with use of aluminum containing drugs.

If you tend towards constipation, you can use magnesium citrate to stimulate a bowel movement. If you take it at night (250 to 1000 mg as needed), blended into an Absorb Plus or whey protein shake, the alkaline whey will buffer the magnesium and you won't get any tummy pains, nausea, etc. from the magnesium.

If you are susceptible to diarrhea, then don't use magnesium citrate – use the Mini-Minerals Magnesium instead, it does not require digestion and therefore does not cause loose bowels. People with IBD (ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease) often have trouble absorbing nutrients from their intestine, and may have low levels of magnesium, potassium and other important nutrients. This is important because magnesium (along with potassium) plays a key role in skeletal and smooth muscle contraction, making it important for normal digestive and muscular function.

So if your intestine is spasming or cramping, you may need magnesium, or you may need potassium, or both! Likewise, if you cannot relax your rectum, or your peristalsis is malfunctioning, then you likely need one or both of these minerals.
