Licorice soothes mucous membranes and also promotes healing. So these lozenges can be used to soothe the GI tract, or they can be used to relieve heartburn (GERD).

If using for heartburn relief, slowly suck one lozenge before each meal. Some people also find it useful to suck an additional lozenge after the meal as well - test it and see. But remember to suck, not chew the lozenge, as that gives the licorice more time to work before you start eating.

Mannitol and sorbitol can cause diarrhea in susceptible people in higher amounts (as can all sugar alcohols). So if you're susceptible to diarrhea, start with only one lozenge before meals and see how you react. Or, if you're using these for heartburn treatment, then use the Natren Gastro-pH - chewable wafers instead.

NOTE: These lozenges also have a strong licorice taste, so if you don't like licorice, then don't get these as you won't like them!
