Those of you who have been readers of mine for while, know that I used to recommend the comfrey salve from Burt's Bees (Burt's Bees Res-Q Ointment). Unfortunately, as so often happens, the company was bought out once it became successful, and the new owner is now downgrading the ingredients; they greatly reduced the amount of comfrey present and instead of actual leaf and root it now only contains 'comfrey leaf extract'. So I went searching for something else that was just as good and I believe I found something even better from another company I've loved for a long time (still original owner!) called Herb Pharm. I've tested their Herb Pharm Original Salve on burns, cuts, and abraded skin and it works brilliantly. This salve is also sustainably wildcrafted and the herbs are harvested at peak times for potency. In my family we now have the Herb Pharm Original Salve by our beds, in our purse or car; and the Christopher's Original Formulas Comfrey Ointment in the fridge for when larger amounts are needed (and out at the barn!).
Please Note: Professional herbalists and naturopathic physicians take a very different stance on comfrey use from the established authorities. Many herbalists and NDs feel it's safe to use comfrey as long as you don't use it continually, long-term. Therefore, they recommend you use it in moderate doses for 3 to 6 months, then take a break of 1 month to allow the liver to cleanse properly, then resume use for 3 to 6 months, etc. as needed. Comfrey has become one of the FDA's targeted substances - likely due to its effectiveness, so when you do your research, keep that in mind.
