Cat’s Claw, also known as Uncaria tomentosa and uña de gato, is a woody vine that grows wild in the Amazon rainforest and other tropical areas of Central and South America. The name Cat’s Claw comes from the shape of its thorns that look like a cat’s claw. Cat’s claw extracts, liquids, tablets, capsules and tea are made from the bark and root of the vine. The use of cat’s claw for health dates back to the Inca civilization.

Uña de Gato (Cat's Claw) has anti-tumor, anti-inflammatory, and anti-oxidant properties. It has proven useful in treating arthritis, bursitis, allergies and numerous bowel and intestinal disorders. Anecdotal evidence indicates effectiveness in relieving side effects of chemotherapy as well.
This herb may loosen your bowels though, so start with a small amount and gradually build up. Do not use if you are prone to diarrhea. However, if you tend towards constipation, it could be your new best friend! You can put it in hot water to evaporate the alcohol.
It's documented properties and actions include: Analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antimutagenic, antioxidant, antiproliferative, antitumorous, antiviral, diuretic and immunomodulatory.
My husband went through a slew of unhelpful doctors before he found a one who prescribed Cat's Claw for his lyme disease. Within a week's use (of building up) he had a huge die-off reaction which had him in bed for three days, but has had no signs of lyme disease since (and he had been sick for sick months prior). We cannot say enough about this wonderful alternative treatment!
