If you're convinced you only need a little bit of cocoa butter, then this size is ideal. HOWEVER, I will tell you right now that it is a hassle to grind/scrape the cocoa butter out of this jar! You have to use a sharp knife and kind of cut and scrape at the same time to carve out slivers/chunks to use. It is MUCH easier to get the larger size with the loose wafers of cocoa butter - which we also sell here in the Shoppe.

You can use cocoa butter to make suppositories, or homemade chocolate, or my Chocolate Cashew Butter Fudge. If you're making your own protein bars, you may also want to try adding in a bit of cocoa butter - not only is it a healthy fat, but the mouthfeel/texture is gorgeous. You can also store your cocoa butter in the fridge and it lasts a few years.

We have been using this pure cocoa butter to make into suppositories - it is the base for both our FissureHeal and HemorrHeal suppositories. But you can even just use it alone to lubricate the rectum and make bowel movements easier.

To make your own cocoa butter suppositories, place about a teaspoon-sized chunk in the palm of your hands and warm it using the heat from your hands. Roll it around as it begins to soften and gradually form it into the size and thickness you want for suppositories. Then lay these on wax paper to harden.

The other way to make suppositories is to melt the cocoa butter in a small bowl, placed inside a larger bowl of very hot water. As you stir the cocoa butter around, it will melt. When it is melted, mix in any other desired ingredients (like powdered herbs) and then pour into suppository molds and allow to harden at room temperature. Once hardened, quickly flash the mold under hot water and then slide the suppositories out onto a sheet of wax paper. Allow the suppositories to harden again and then store in a glass jar in the fridge or in a cool room.

Of course, because this is pure cocoa butter, it is also suitable for food or cosmetic use. So you can use it in homemade chocolate recipes, or skincare or cosmetic recipes as well.

Extraction Method: Expeller-pressed
Refinement techniques: Unrefined
Intended Use: Food and cosmetic use

Our organic roasted butter is pressed from the roasted seeds of the cacao tree. It will soften at body temperature and adds a thick and creamy consistency to lotions, soaps, creams, and toiletry items. Cocoa butter contains natural antioxidant Vitamin E, as well as a number of other vitamins and minerals. It is mainly used as a thickening agent and is a common ingredient in lipsticks, soaps, and emollient creams.

Cocoa butter is made by pressing ground, milled cacao nibs to make a cacao paste. This process separates the thick and creamy butter from the fibrous powder. Interestingly, cacao butter and powder, separated at birth, are reunited to make chocolate. That is, most of the ingredients for chocolate are present in the cacao bean in the first place, but need to go their separate ways in order to come together.

It has a low melting point, and often melts in transit to higher temperature states during the summer months. Fat bloom is a common occurrence in cocoa butter and should not be a cause for alarm.

Due to temperature fluctuations, ‘fat blooms’ will occasionally appear on the surface of cocoa butter. This happens when the fat solids separate and then re-cool, resulting in a spotted look. This is completely normal and not a cause for concern. Once re-melted, separated fats blend back into the butter and the product will still act the same when used in food or body care formulations.

Our line of unrefined cocoa butter is not deodorized and is lightly odoriferous, which will scent your products in moderation. Suitable for food and cosmetic use and makes an exquisite ingredient within culinary products (especially chocolate). As an unrefined cosmetic butter it may contain natural sediments which will appear on the surface of the oil after the butter is melted. Straining the oil through muslin cloth is recommended, based on the product that is being formulated.
